Active Silicon, the imaging business unit of Steatite, is a market leader in the design and manufacture of leading-edge computer imaging systems. The Electronics Inspector is an important role within our Production facility. The person will work as part of the Quality team, reporting to the Quality and Compliance Manager.

Summary details

Job Title: Electronics Inspector
Location: 1 Waterside Court, Waterside Drive, Langley, UK (just outside M25, NW London). 3 mins walk from Langley Station.
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 25 days annual holiday (plus public holidays). Hours: 8:00 to 4:30 with one hour for lunch (although these times are negotiable).
Salary Package: £27k – £30k depending on skills and experience; plus pension (5% employer, 3% employee), healthcare and discretionary bonus scheme. Life assurance at 4x basic salary.

Experience: Ideally had previous experience in an electronics environment but must have experience of working in an ISO 9001:2015 company, working to drawings and IPC workmanship standards.

The role is aimed at an experienced Inspector from an Electronics background, with some crossover into Quality Assurance and Production work.
Our shop floor area is within an office environment working alongside a small team, so they should also be methodical and tidy.

Key Competencies

  • Experience working to IPC-A-610
  • Experience working within an ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System
  • Able to interpret engineering drawings, BoMs and wiring schedules – GD&T experience preferred
  • Use of basic measuring equipment – verniers, calipers, gauges
  • Non-Conformance resolution including Root Cause Analysis. 8D experience an advantage
  • Experience with Internal Auditing an advantage
  • IPC/WHMA-A-620 an advantage

  • Computer literate; the use of Excel and Word a requirement, as well as use of MRP systems

Work Areas

The role would be mainly working in our Goods Inwards and Final Inspection areas, though there are additional Quality duties that are expected to be involved as well as working closely with the Production staff.

Goods Inwards Inspection

  • Incoming inspection of components, build to print parts, PCBs, cables and assemblies in accordance with inspection routine or drawing
  • Component Checks on built PCB assemblies
  • Workmanship Checks in line with IPC-A-610 up to Class 3 on completed board assemblies
  • Raising Non-Conformance Reports as required

Final Inspection

  • Outgoing inspection of finished and repaired products in line with Inspection Routines.

Quality Assurance

  • Internal Audit support as required
  • Non-conformance processing and resolution

Production

  • Occasional support of general Production activities, i.e. boxing, stores, booking in.

Health & Safety

  • There will be a requirement to coordinate Health & Safety activities, no experience is required as full training will be given.
