German-based automation solution provider, SICK, has announced the acquisition of Dutch technology company, Accerion.

SICK specializes in solutions for sensor-based industrial applications and already owns 60 subsidiaries around the globe. Dr. Niels Syassen, Executive Board Member for Technology & Digitalization at SICK, commented on the acquisition: “We are very pleased to welcome the Accerion team to SICK and to further strengthen our software portfolio for autonomous mobile robots (AMR) for the future”. SICK has acquired Accerion from the HighTechXL portfolio, where it began as a startup in 2015.

Accerion’s principal product is Triton, a localization solution for AMRs, which is now guiding over 3000 robots worldwide. “Our close collaboration with SICK has shown how perfectly our products and cultures complement one another. We are thrilled to officially join the SICK family, where we can leverage this synergy to scale localization solutions worldwide” said Accerion’s CEO, Vincent Burg. Triton doesn’t require existing navigation infrastructure such as grids, instead relying on optical sensors and AI-based image processing.

The new subsidiary, SICK Accerion B.V, will continue to operate from the Netherlands, supporting SICK’s growth in robotic solutions for industrial and supply chain applications. The two companies have been collaborating on customer projects since 2021.
