Overview
Active Silicon is a market leader in the design and manufacture of sophisticated computer imaging products. Our products are used in applications from space missions to deep-sea vehicles – in fact in virtually all areas of science and industry, including manufacturing, life sciences, medical imaging, robotics and security.
In line with ongoing growth, we are currently expanding our R&D team and are looking for engineers to work with new and emerging technologies to meet the evolving needs of our customers. The right candidate will have an inquisitive attitude, a desire to continually learn new skills and tackle challenges, and the ability to balance multiple projects.
The primary role of a Hardware FPGA Design Engineer is the development of high speed digital design using VHDL.

Job Title: FPGA Design Engineer
Location: Iver, UK (just outside M25, NW London)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, 25 days annual holiday (plus public holidays).
Salary: Range £40,000 to £45,000 depending on experience, plus benefits, including bonus scheme.
Qualifications: 2-1 or first class honours degree in software/electrical/electronic engineering, computer science or a related subject.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years FPGA design experience in a commercial environment using VHDL or Verilog.
Key competencies
- At least 3 years FPGA design experience in a commercial environment using VHDL or Verilog
- Ability to work well within the product team
- Understand software issues and ideally some C/C++ programming experience
- Proficiency in planning and achieving goals within agreed timeframes
As a hands-on and agile company, customers benefit from the contact they have with our engineers directly in pre- and after-sales support, so ability to communicate with customers at a technical level is important. This may also involve some second line technical support for products that you have been involved with.
